The Directors of CMA Planning originally secured approval for H Forman & Son's new 30,000 sqft factory, whilst working for their previous firm, in 2006, which was duly built. The factory adjoins the River Lea and overlooks the Olympic Park. Following on from this, H Forman acquired the neighbouring site and submitted proposals for a major temporary events space, to be used in conjunction with the London 2012 Games. CMA Planning were brought into the process to lead the planning application. Although the facility was only temporary, it still had the potential to accommodate 8000 people. Equally, to give flexibility, an outline application had been submitted, with differing options available, including the ‘sofa shaped scheme (bottom right) and the Riviera scheme (above). CMA Planning worked to address a wide range of issues including cumulative visitor numbers with those arriving at the Games, the scale and visual appearance of the proposal and its relationship to the canal and conservation area along with noise and disturbance concerns raised by neighbours. Following on from this, planning permission was secured in early 2012 from the LTGDC (now the London Legacy Development Corporation / LLDC).
