This former cinema was proposed to become an exciting new centre for films, entertainment and business. Shoreditch Trust looked to redevelop the site as a cinema, café, work and event space – installing state-of-the-art facilities behind the cinema’s original iconic façade. CMA Planning advised the Trust on this project, and secured the latest planning permission for the scheme from the London Borough of Hackney in June 2009 to provide a two screen cinema along with associated facilities including an event space, a cafes and office space above the screens designed specifically for local business. Issues that were addressed included the principle of development in this location, the design and scale of new build elements, impact on nearby residents, traffic and parking concerns and noise / disturbance. CMA Planning advised on the approach and planning strategy and also assisted with the discharge of conditions, to enable work to start on site.
