CMA secured planning permission and listed building consent in 2021 for works to this former Church to allow for its use as an office (now know as Vetus + Novum). The Church was designed by James Brooks and is one of just six Grade I listed buildings in Hackney. It recently served as an antiques store and showroom, but has been vacant since these previous occupiers relocated.
The proposals centre around the revealing of the vast volume of the former Church’s nave by the removing various temporary structures inserted previously, with a new partial contemporary mezzanine floor added along with other works to breathe life back into the building and give it a viable commercial future. It is an inventive re-purposing of the former Church to deliver truly extraordinary workspace.
In addition, a new five storey office block will be built on the adjoining yard fronting onto Leonard Street to contextually repair the 'gap tooth' in the streetscape, whilst delivering office space of the highest quality.
