CMA Planning secured planning permission on behalf of Metropolitan Housing Trust for this residential scheme from the London Borough of Hackney in December 2009. The site was previously left over space from previous Estate redevelopments, but is located next to the Regent's Canal. The proposal which provides 14 homes comprises an eight storey landmark building on a small 470 sqm site (density of 1319 hrph) at one of the entrance points to the London Borough of Hackney. The building takes an innovative approach to sustainability, using timber construction to achieve a 44% reduction in CO2 emissions and to reach Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4. As part of the planning process, CMA worked with the team, which included Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, to address issues raised including the height of the building, impact on the adjoining conservation area, affordable provision and housing tenure, family unit provision, lack of any parking and detailed matters such as refuse provision and amenity space.
