The site comprises a former car showroom and garage, close to Mile End underground station and opposite Queen Mary University. CMA Planning worked with INTO University Partnership, Mile End Limited Partnership and Grosvenor House Group to bring forward this new educational facility. The building comprises a new education / teaching facility and student living accommodation, as well as ancillary services such as a café and amenity areas. The education facility will be operated under the auspices of ‘INTO University Partnerships’, providing foundation courses for students before they enter undergraduate and post-graduate degree courses. The teaching facility would support in excess of 300 full-time students. The upper parts of the building provide modern student living facilities arranged as either single studio or double studio clusters with private kitchen and bathrooms, totaling 583 student rooms. The proposal was approved by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and the GLA in May 2010. CMA then secured approval in March 2012 for temporary change of use to allow occupation by officials and others associated with the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as assisting with conditions and minor amendments.
