Where: Fish Island
Who For: City & Suburban
What: 120 units, 2250 sqm commercial
Architect: Hawkins Brown
CMA Planning secured approval in May 2015 for this City & Suburban Homes scheme comprising 120 homes and 2,000 sqm of business space from the London Legacy Development Corporation’s planning committee. Monier Road West, located in Fish Island, forms an important part of the area’s post-Olympic ambitions, helping to define its evolving character between the existing communities of Hackney, Tower Hamlets and the emerging Queen Elizabeth Park.
Hawkins\Brown designed Monier Road West as a strong urban block that respects the existing street pattern. Broad pedestrian routes have been plotted through the development to increase the permeability of the former light industrial site and to extend the characteristic Hackney Wick street plan of yards and passages into the development.
CMA then secured permission in 2019 for change of use for part of the commercial space to allow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing to take some of the units within the scheme. The scheme was completed by Weston Homes in 2019.
