These proposals involved the demolition of former art college buildings and replacing them with a new, four storey block containing 39 flats, together with parking and landscaping. Following extensive consultation and dialogue with planning officers from the London Borough of Southwark, and presenting to the Community Council, the application was approved by the Council in November 2008. Key issues that were considered included the design and scale of the building, density, impact on local amenity, including sunlight / daylight, parking provision, sustainability and Section 106 matters. The Council accepted that the proposal would take a visually unattractive site and replace it with a well-designed scheme, bringing a range of good quality affordable homes to the area. The scheme is now being built by L&Q.
